Pedal Movement - Bicycle H.U.B

Due to the increased participation of lovely new cities in Cycle Chic Sundays - our local OC/Long Beach gals have been pretty busy getting things sorted.  The growth is good - but very time consuming!!

Luckily we were able to take some 'we' time and check out the Cycles of Sounds party over at Pedal Movement - Bicycle H.U.B . 

I was not surprised to see that a majority of the party goers arrive by bike.The bike community in Long Beach is very diverse and comprised of a healthy mix of young , old , male and female. This in turn makes for a wide variety of bicycles and fashions.

The workshop portion of the shop is a really fantastic old house. There are two 'cost free' rooms that provide limited services and community information. As you walk towards the right of the house you reach the service dept. It's all DIY - and they charge a flat rate [$5 / hr]. The garage is well equip with all the tools and parts needed to fix up your whip and the guys working there are awesome!

After we got the tour we headed back out to the party where we watched some live painting , listened to some remarkable DJ sets , and  noshed on homemade Vietnamese spring rolls.

We knew it was just a matter of time before the 'right' coasters got in on the Cycle Chic Sunday fun! From the looks of things our friends down in Florida had lots of FUN & lots of SUN! Ride leader [and bike shop gal] Miss Katie had a fantastic interview on bikejax.org all about how she got involved in the wonderful world of bikes.

Cycle Chic Sunday Sydney & Santa Barbara!

Sunday July 11 was one chic party with dual Cycle Chic Sunday rides!

¡Viva España!

A most exuberant display of Spanish pride rolled past me on State Street yesterday.
I know it's not cycle chic - but it was beautiful and authentic

A Cycle Chic 4th of July!

What luck that the 4th would fall on a Sunday this year. Not only did most of us 9-5ers get an extra day off  - it was , by default, one deliciously Californian Cycle Chic Sunday!

Now I know this scene is de riguer in many cities .. but to see such a brilliant and robust display of bikes in my home town is something reserved for 3-day weekends and summer holidays.I must take time to revel in it!



It was neat to see how most of the gals coordinated their outfits with their bikes!
I wish I would have snapped a picture of the purple sequins tricycle - driven by a woman in a purple sequined dress - carrying a big black dog with a purple sequined collar. 





We spent a majority of the day lounging on the grass at our friends BBQ. I think everyone at the party arrived by bike - even the parents.

One of my girlfriends even showed up in a patriotic blue mini dress and lovely matching espadrilles - she just so happened to ride up on the white bike with the colorful stripes and blue rims!

I hope all my fellow Yankees out there had a fun and bike filled fourth!
